Chakra
Chakra (Sanskrit cakra, wheel) is an energy center of the subtle body in Hindu and Buddhist yogic tradition. Classical Indian texts (Upanishads, Yoga Sutras, c. 2nd century BC onwards) describe several systems with different numbers; the modern Western popular system of 7 chakras was codified by Arthur Avalon (John Woodroffe, 1918, The Serpent Power) and is the standard today.
The 7 chakras
- Muladhara (root, red) — survival, base.
- Svadhisthana (sacral, orange) — sexuality, creativity.
- Manipura (solar plexus, yellow) — power, will.
- Anahata (heart, green) — love.
- Vishuddha (throat, blue) — communication.
- Ajna (third eye, indigo) — intuition.
- Sahasrara (crown, violet/white) — spiritual connection.
