Gematria
Gematria (Greek geōmetría via Hebrew גימטריה) is the Hebrew numerological system that assigns numerical value to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Used in Jewish Kabbalah (Zohar, 13th century onwards) to find symbolic correspondences between words with the same numerical sum. Example: the word "love" (אהבה, ahava) has value 13; the word "one" (אחד, echad) also has 13.
Methods of gematria
- Mispar Hechrachi — standard values 1-400.
- Mispar Gadol — extended values including final letters.
- Mispar Katan — reduced by digital root.
