Ouija
The Ouija board is a board with letters of the alphabet, numbers and the words "yes/no", used as alleged tool for spirit communication. Patented in the United States in 1890 by Elijah Bond, marketed by William Fuld. Practice popularized in the late 19th century in spiritism context, today seen as parlor game.
Scientific explanation
The movement of the planchette is explained by the ideomotor effect (Carpenter, 1852): unconscious micromovements of the participants\' hands move the marker without conscious awareness.
