Prophecy
Prophecy (Greek prophēteía) is the verbal pronouncement of message of divine origin, especially regarding the future. Different from oracular divination: the oracle is consulted; the prophecy is spontaneous, delivered to a community. Biblical prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel), Greek prophets (Cassandra, Tiresias), Nostradamus (16th century), Native American prophets.
Famous prophecies
Nostradamus (1503-1566) wrote 942 quatrains, interpreted post hoc to "predict" major historical events. Critics note: the prophecies are vague enough to fit many interpretations (after the fact).
