Automatic Writing
Psychography (or automatic writing) is the alleged spiritist practice of writing with the hand "guided" by a discarnate spirit. Central in Brazilian Spiritism with Chico Xavier (1910-2002), who published over 450 books attributed to various spirits. Surrealists (André Breton, Philippe Soupault) used automatic writing as a creative technique.
Scientific perspective
Studies (notably comparison of Chico Xavier\'s handwriting with the supposedly channeled writers) showed differences in handwriting, but the writer\'s explicit knowledge of the spirits\' lives cannot be ruled out. Phenomenon today seen as creative dissociation.
