Jungian Shadow
The Jungian Shadow is, in Carl Jung's psychology, the part of the personality that the ego rejects, represses or does not recognize as belonging to itself. Includes traits considered unacceptable by the individual (anger, envy, lust, weakness) but also "gold shadow": positive talents and qualities that the person also denies. Concept developed throughout Jung's work, central in Aion (1951).
Integration of the shadow
The therapeutic goal is not to "eliminate" the shadow (impossible), but to integrate it consciously through the process of individuation. What stays in the shadow controls; what becomes conscious can be chosen.
