Theosophy
Theosophy (Greek theos, god + sophia, wisdom) is the esoteric movement founded by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831-1891), Henry Olcott and William Q. Judge with the creation of the Theosophical Society in New York, 1875. Major works: Isis Unveiled (1877), The Secret Doctrine (1888). Synthesizes Hinduism, Buddhism, Hermetic Kabbalah, Western occultism.
Cultural influence
Influenced modern esotericism, New Age, Wicca, Anthroposophy (Rudolf Steiner, dissident). Contributed to the Western introduction of concepts like karma, reincarnation, chakra, aura.
