Daphnomancy
Daphnomancy (Greek daphne, laurel) is divination by burning laurel leaves. Practice associated with the oracle of Apollo at Delphi, where laurel was sacred to Apollo. The Pythia chewed laurel leaves and inhaled their smoke before pronouncing oracles.

Crackling = good omen (Apollo accepts). Silent burning = bad omen. Pleasant smell = approval.
