The Angel Oracle is a contemporary deck of cards with messages attributed to angels of the Judeo-Christian tradition: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, and archangels of the celestial hierarchies described by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite (5th-6th century). The most popular modern decks — Doreen Virtue (1999), Kyle Gray, Radleigh Valentine — are grounded in this cosmology but add eclectic New Age interpretations.

The nine angelic hierarchies

According to Pseudo-Dionysius, angels are organized in three triads of three choirs each:

First triad (closest to God): Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones.
Second triad (governs the cosmos): Dominions, Virtues, Powers.
Third triad (in direct contact with humans): Principalities, Archangels, Angels.

What each archangel represents

Michael — protection, courage, freedom from fear. Color: sky blue.
Gabriel — message, communication, creativity. Color: white.
Raphael — physical and emotional healing, safe travels. Color: emerald green.
Uriel — wisdom, mental clarity. Color: golden yellow.
Chamuel — love, reconciliation, inner peace. Color: pink.
Jophiel — beauty, harmony, elevated thoughts. Color: yellow.
Zadkiel — forgiveness, transmutation, compassion. Color: violet.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be religious to use this oracle?

No. Angel language can be used as symbology of archetypal qualities (protection, healing, message, wisdom) without literally adhering to theology.

Do angels really respond?

There is no empirical basis for "angelic transmission". The reading works as directed meditation: you formulate the question, receive a message associated with an archangel, and use it to reflect.
